David Butler
David J. Butler is a dedicated leader, humanitarian, and community advocate with over 40 years of service to both local and global causes. A 1976 high school graduate, David was the State President of the Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) during the 1975-1976 academic year. His commitment to service has shaped his career and personal life, leading him to a distinguished path in ministry, business, and military support.
David has served as the pastor of Faith Assembly Christian Church in Miramar Beach, Florida, for more than four decades. His non-denominational ministry is rooted in compassion and outreach. He is also the President and CEO of Mission of Compassion, a 501(c)(3) faith-based humanitarian organization that works both domestically and internationally to bring aid to those in need. In addition to leading the organization, he owned and operated a thrift store for nine years, further supporting community initiatives.
A seasoned missionary, David has traveled to 37 countries to share his faith and assist with humanitarian efforts. He also serves as a tour guide in Israel, enriching the experiences of others while deepening his own understanding of the region's history and significance.
David’s ties to the military community are strong and deeply honored. He is the Honorary Commander of the United States Air Force 96th Test Wing at Eglin Air Force Base (2023-2025) and has served two terms as Honorary Commander for the Special Operations Wing at Hurlburt Air Force Base. David graduated from the 2023 National Security Forum at the War University (Maxwell AFB) and completed the Ranger Swamp Training Exercise that same year. He is an active member of both the Destin Military Affairs Council (MAC) and the Emerald Coast Military Affairs Council (ECMAC), where he hosts military and first responder luncheons. Additionally, he has been a member of the Walton County Sheriff’s Office Hiring Board since 2018 and currently serves on the Destin Chamber Board of Directors.
David’s leadership and community involvement have been recognized throughout his career. In 2021, he was awarded the Destin Chamber of Commerce’s Citizen of the Year Award (Ann Gibson Community Service Award) for his dedication to the community. He is a graduate of the Destin Forward Inaugural Class (2008), the Okaloosa County, Florida Leadership Program (2006), and the Walton County, Florida Chamber Leadership Program (2018).
A passionate supporter of Rotary International, David served as Assistant Governor for Texas District 5830 from 2013 to 2017. His business acumen has earned him recognition as the Business Man of the Year in 2015 in Jacksonville, Texas, and as Citizen of the Year in 2014.
In addition to his many achievements, David has worked as a realtor for over 10 years, further contributing to his multifaceted career.
David’s life is a testament to service, leadership, and faith, with a deep commitment to making a positive impact both locally and internationally.
